Human Pelt
Show the animal within you
A pelt, known for its protection, warmth and its impressive appearance, is the base and the main inspiration of the 'Human Pelt'.
My wearables enable to impress the other, to distinguish the self from the crowd and to create a shelter for thehuman body. The eccentric pelt transforms the body into an impressive, monumental animal being. Tufting is a technique that is generally applied in carpets. The loops that the tuft generates are an interesting starting point to create imposing forms and static silhouettes. I developed a wearable material by altering the fixation on the backside along with different yarn qualities, heights and densities. The patterns are inspired by organic shapes, which contrast with the striking colours and graphic lines. Height and colour differences create an abstract landscape. All tufts consist out of a variety of yarns through which mélanges arise. The dull qualities differ in firmness causing a difference in flexibility within one piece.
